Bowl - Watermelon - Dark Red w Green Rim - Small
Bowl - Watermelon - Dark Red w Green Rim - Small
Bowls begin life with a slab of wet clay to create the basic roundness of the piece and then continue on using coils. My bowls make great soup and noodle ware at any time of year.
Wanting to raise awareness of the situation in Gaza I have created bowls with a watermelon inspired image. My work is handbuilt and every single piece is created and incised individually. Thus, you will notice irregularities in both design and size. What all these bowls have in common is that they are made with love and the utmost respect for the people of Palestine coupled with the hope that my contribution will help to bring a little relief.
Why Watermelons?
The watermelon has been used as a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle against the illegal Israeli occupation. The watermelon which shares the same colours as the Palestinian flag - green, red, white and black - gained popularity as a display of support for the Palestinian cause when Israel banned the flag from being displayed throughout Gaza and the West Bank.A loved and versatile vessel and a must have for those who appreciate tea, soups, stews, curries, noodles, cereal, ice cream, and more.
These bowls are part of a fundraiser for my friend Tamer, who is struggling to keep his family alive in Gaza. Please go to my blog for more information about this fundraiser.
