Mugs

My mugs are created using slabs of moist clay. These are shaped, formed, handles added, and trimmed throughout the different stages of dryness; just before they're leather hard, I incise the pattern into the clay. Once the design has been completed the mugs are left to dry completely in preparation for the first firing. After the bisque firing the mugs are glazed and fired one last time.

These mugs are created individually with no two being exactly alike. Having created myriads of handbuilt cups throughout the years I am seeing them as little copies of people. The mass production of everything in our lives has led us to believe that much of what we are surrounded by needs to be an exact replica of its fellows. But we people are all different, I celebrate that and I celebrate that through my work.

Each mug is created with deep respect for my craft with the intention of adding pleasure to your daily beverage ritual.

I work in stoneware and fire in electric kilns to 1260º Celsius. My work is durable and functional and will happily embellish your daily life for years to come when handled with care. The cups can withstand boiling water, rinsing, and scrubbing. They enjoy a trip through the dishwasher, but do not get along with the microwave.
