Fundraiser for Gaza
The on-going genocide in Gaza, this vile and atrocious destruction of life, of culture, of history has broken my heart.
Palestinians are being hunted, displaced, starved, and robbed of their humanity, of their culture, of their lives.
The assault on the most basic necessities and human rights has to end.
By creating awareness and by raising our voices we can make a difference. Together we must bring peace to the region and free Palestine from its illegal oppressor.
Inspired by Palestine, by her people and by the crisis I have created mugs and bowls for this fundraiser.
I am raising funds for my friend Tamer Fouad Al-Daba and his wife Amina and their three children Mira, Aya and Tameem, who are stuck in Gaza fleeing from camp to camp to camp in search of shelter and safety. With Israel cutting off all food and water to Gaza survival is getting increasingly harder.
Watermelon Mugs
Wanting to raise awareness of the situation in Gaza I have created mugs with a watermelon inspired image. My work is handbuilt and every single piece is created and incised individually. Thus, you will notice irregularities in both design and size. What all these mugs do have in common is that they are made with love and with the utmost respect for the people of Palestine coupled with the hope that my contribution will help to bring a little relief.
Why Watermelons?
The watermelon has been used as a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle against the illegal Israeli occupation. The watermelon which shares the same colours as the Palestinian flag – green, red, white and black – gained popularity as a display of support for the Palestinian cause when Israel banned the flag from being displayed throughout Gaza and the West Bank.
Keffiyeh Inspired Mugs
Wanting to raise awareness of the situation in Gaza I have created mugs with a keffiyeh inspired imprint. My work is handbuilt and every single piece is created and incised individually. Thus, you will notice irregularities in both design and size. What all these mugs do have in common is that they are made with love and with the utmost respect for the people of Palestine coupled with the hope that my contribution will help to bring a little relief.
What is a keffiyeh?
The keffiyeh scarf, once used by Palestinian peasants and bedouins to shield eyes from the sun is now a symbol of identity, solidarity, and resistance. The iconic black-and-white Keffiyeh has since been adopted as a symbol of Palestinian nationalism.
The Fundraiser
How this works. With every purchase of a Watermelon or Keffiyeh mug, cup or bowl I will make a 50% donation to Tamer and his family.
You may also want to follow Tamer directly via his Instagram account @tameraldabba
Internet access is sporadic, so Tamer’s updates are less frequent but rest assured that the donations will reach him and that they will make a huge difference in the life of his family.
